Mexican journalists protest wave of unpunished violence

Journalists from national and statewide media joined press freedom advocates outside the Attorney General’s office in Mexico City this week to demonstrate against impunity in crimes against media workers, La Jornada reports.

Members of a union representing editors and writers described journalists as extremely vulnerable, especially in states where organized crime has used violence to respond to the federal government’s anti-drug offensive, El Financiero adds.

The wave of violence in Mexico has resulted in nine killings of reporters this year and 55 killings since 2000, EFE explains.
