Doris Gibson Parra, founder of the influential weekly magazine Caretas, which has criticized military dictatorships since it first appeared in October 1950, has died at 98, the Associated Press reported.
The magazine was closed eight times and seized by military governments in response to its defense of democracy. In Lima, politicians, journalists, and media colleagues paid tributes to Gibson, La República reported.
Gibson's life was recalled by several natonal media, such as Correo, La República, El Comercio, and La Primera.
"I pay tribute to Doris Gibson, an extraordinary journalist and woman, who was ahead of her time. She demonstrated what a woman can do in public opinion and private business", President Alan Garcia told RPP.
