In an interview with the Globovisión news channel, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stated her support for protecting media in Venezuela, highlighting its importance in the democratic process, El Universal reports.
Alberto Ravell, director of the station that is currently in a tense conflict with the Hugo Chávez administration, told editors of the Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald that Clinton’s statements represent Washington’s support for independent media that are being “harassed” in Venezuela.
Regarding criticism that the station's editorial line is excessively politicized, Ravell responded that in a country without a separation of powers, “the media end up taking on a political role that they shouldn’t have.”
In another article, El Universal reported that Venezuela's foreign minister rejected Clinton’s remarks and demanded a retraction, saying her words reflect “a profound lack of knowledge about our reality and disdain towards the will expressed several times by our people in the context of a real participatory democracy.”

Journalism support
Journalism support is waning in many countries around the world. The truth of the matter is that they do not want us there to tell the world what is really happening. casino online
