Ten hours after Bladimir Antuna, crime reporter for El Tiempo newspaper, was kidnapped while driving to work, his body was found outside a hospital in Durango City, Durango, the AFP news agency and the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) report.
The week before his death, Antuna broke a story on corruption the the Durango City Police, CPJ says, quoting his editor.
The body showed signs of strangulation, police confirmed. According to a witness, the body was accompanied by a note saying: “This happened to me for giving information to the military and writing what I shouldn’t have,” La Jornada reports.
Antuna, 39, had reported receiving at least three recent death threats, CPJ adds. This is the third killing of a journalist in Durango state this year, following the unsolved assassinations of Carlos Ortega Samper and Eliseo Barrón Laguna.
