Mexican journalist killed for “giving information to the military”

Ten hours after Bladimir Antuna, crime reporter for El Tiempo newspaper, was kidnapped while driving to work, his body was found outside a hospital in Durango City, Durango, the AFP news agency and the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) report.

The week before his death, Antuna broke a story on corruption the the Durango City Police, CPJ says, quoting his editor.

The body showed signs of strangulation, police confirmed. According to a witness, the body was accompanied by a note saying: “This happened to me for giving information to the military and writing what I shouldn’t have,” La Jornada reports.

Antuna, 39, had reported receiving at least three recent death threats, CPJ adds. This is the third killing of a journalist in Durango state this year, following the unsolved assassinations of Carlos Ortega Samper and Eliseo Barrón Laguna.
