Protesters belonging to the truck drivers' union prevented Clarín and La Nación from leaving their printing plants, Momento 24 reports. Only a portion of the dailies could be delivered in some provinces in the interior.
The protesters demand salary increases for drivers of both companies, as well as for other union members. However, their actions brought strong criticism from some media, which view the incident as going beyond a labor dispute.
The blockage could be understood as an act of harassment against private media taken by the government, which is aligned with the labor federation's leader, writes Lucrecia Bullrich of La Nación. Clarín says the protest is unjust.
The opposition also warned of an "official plan" to control the distribution of media. "In no case can freedom of expression may be subordinated to a union grievance," one federal deputy told La Nación.
