Venezuelan city says opposition TV owes $3.2 million in taxes
Private TV network Globovisión – currently embroiled in a tense conflict with Hugo Chávez’s government – insists that federal telecom law exempts it from local taxes, El Universal reports.
However, the mayor of Libertador, the largest municipality in the Caracas area, says the station owes $3.2 million in taxes dating back to 2006 and will be shut down if it does not pay within three days, EFE adds.
Globovisíon paid $4.1 million in fines last July for its broadcasts in support of the 2002 strikes, which authorities considered “taxable donations,” AFP explains.

Now, this is confusing? what is the difference between taxable gifts and local taxes? if they are different, then Globovision will need to pay up again and it appears like a rip off
