Model-turned-photographer documents climate change in Peru
Helena Christensen, a half-Peruvian, half-Danish former supermodel, travelled to her mother's native Peru to document the effects of climate change on indigenous people. The images are on display in London's Proud Gallery until Nov. 29, the AFP news service reports. They will appear at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Dec. 7-18.
The “Meltdown” exhibition was produced in conjunction with Oxfam to raise awareness of the effects of climate on the livelihoods of rural families. The images highlight the consequences of changing seasons, melting mountain glaciers, and rising temperatures on food and water scarcity in the Andes.
