JOURNALISM IN THE AMERICAS Blog

Another longstanding Brazilian daily to move entirely online

O Estado do Paraná newspaper, whose print edition circulated in Curitiba for 59 years, will abandon print and go entirely online, Folha de S. Paulo and Meio & Mensagem report.

The print edition has a weekday circulation of 20,000 copies and a Sunday audience of 25,000, Meio & Mensagem explains. According to Estadão, this represents a 50% decline in circulation over the last five years.

The move follows in the footsteps of the Rio de Janeiro-based Jornal do Brasil, which moved entirely online in August after 119 years in print,

However, Tribuna do Paraná, which shares owners and home cities with Estado do Paraná, will continue to release a print edition to its 30,000 subscribers.
