The School of Journalism and Social Communication at the National University of La Plata in Argentina bestowed the Rodolfo Walsh journalism prize on the president of the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo association, Hebe Pastor de Bonafin, reported La Nación. This is the same award that in March was given to Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, prompting criticism.

The award recognizes the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo association for its spread of human rights-related information, explained El Argentino.

The recognition comes amid controversy over the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo, for the the supposed embezzlement by former group representative Sergio Schoklender, reported La Voz.

Recently, Hebe de Bonafini attacked the Argentine press, dismissing it as "trash," Terra reported.
