At least three journalists were attacked while covering a violent protest in the Bolivian capital of La Paz, reported the newspaper Jornada. Protesters from the Indigenous Council of the South also injured more than 20 police officers during the demonstration.

The indigenous group marched 500 kilometers to Plaza Murillo in La Paz, the seat of the Bolivian National Congress, to demand the construction of a highway through the Isiboro Sécure National Park and Indigenous Territory ecological reserve, reported the Chilean newspaper Tercera.

According to the radio station FMBolivia, the journalist Helga Velasco lost two teeth after being hit with sticks. Cameraman Carlos Saavedra had his nose broken, and another cameraman, Alejandro Estívariz, suffered a deep gash to the forehead.

Saddened by the violence, the National Association of the Press asked the government to "guarantee journalists' ability to work," reported Los Tiempos.
