Political party spokesman under house arrest after attacking TV journalists in Guatemala
Guatemalan journalists Jorge Toledo and Norman Rodas, of Channel 2 in the department, or state, of Quiché, had just finished covering a press conference of the Patriotic Party on Saturday, Jan. 15, when they were attacked by persons identified as members of the political party's communications team, reported Cerigua.
According to Prensa Libre, one of the accused, Edgar Girón, chided the reporters for not giving him a preferred spot to place his film equipment during the press conference. Then he took a tripod and used it to beat Toledo. Rodas tried to intervene, but he was attacked by Éricka Marroquín, also a member of the political party.
The article from Cerigua explained that Rodas ended up in the hospital, where he received eight stitches in his head. Girón remains under house arrest, Prensa Libre added.
