The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, in partnership with the Association of Caribbean Media Workers, conducted a five-week online course, The Role of the Editor, designed to help Caribbean editors improve their leadership and management skills.
The course was taught by George Sylvie, associate professor of journalism at The University of Texas at Austin.
Applications were accepted through Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004. Participants selected were notified by Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004. This course was open only to editors from Caribbean countries.
The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas is developing a distance learning curriculum that permits journalists from the Americas to take Internet-based short courses on a variety of topics. Courses are offered throughout the year in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and are designed to give journalists the flexibility to work at their own pace, according to their schedule.
Courses include video lectures, exercises, and discussions among students. Individuals who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate for their participation.
The Knight Center conducted several courses this year. For more information, or to suggest a topic for an upcoming course, please contact Dean Graber, Program Manager, deangraber@mail.utexas.edu
