Short Courses of the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas

Argentine Journalists Conclude Online Ethics CourseArgentine Journalists Conclude Online Ethics Course

Twenty-five Argentine journalists, representing print, radio, TV, and online media throughout the country, have concluded the online course "Journalistic Ethics", which was taught by Colombian ethics instructor Javier Dario Restrepo. The eight-week course, which began May 28 and ended on July 20, was offered by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas in partnership with the Argentine Journalists Forum (FOPEA).

Restrepo, an award-winning print and broadcast journalist who specializes in journalistic ethics, conducted the course from Bogotá, Colombia. The Argentine students represented print, radio, TV, and online media and were located throughout the country. Knight Center teaching assistant Paul Alonso participated in the course from Lima, Peru.

The Knight Center will offer the Spanish-language course later this year to larger audiences from throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

FOPEA, a partner of the Knight Center, has focused on elevating the ethical practices of Argentine journalism. At its First National Congress in November, 2006, FOPEA presented its first code of ethics.

The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas was created by Professor Rosental Calmon Alves at the University of Texas at Austin School of Journalism in August 2002 thanks to a generous donation from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Its main objective is to help journalists in the hemisphere to develop self-sustaining training programs that will raise the ethical and professional levels of journalism in the Americas.
