The Brazilian Association for Investigative Journalism (Abraji) will offer the online course 'Coverage of Human Development', from March 3, to March 30, 2008. The course is offered in Portuguese in partnership with the Ayrton Senna Institute and the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas. Brazilian journalists can apply online until midnight, Feb. 24.
The course will be conducted entirely online and will cover basic topics and measures of human development, including efforts to reduce poverty, improve education, and control the spread of AIDS. The instructor is José Roberto de Toledo, an investigative reporter and Abraji project coordinator.
Abraji developed the course in partnership with the Ayrton Senna Institute, a non-profit organization that works to combat social inequality, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Applications from Brazilian journalists will be accepted until midnight (Austin time) on Feb. 24 here:
More information about the courses can be found at the Journalism for Human Development site or from Abraji. The course has been offered five times previously and will be offered four more times in 2008.
The course marks the most recent collaboration between the Knight Center for Journalism and Abraji, an organization formed in December 2002, with the Knight Center’s assistance.
The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas was created at the University of Texas at Austin School of Journalism in August 2002 thanks to a generous donation from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
