The Brazilian Association for Investigative Journalism (Abraji), in partnership with the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, has ended its seventh edition of its online course 'Coverage of Human Development', on May 18, 2008.

The four-week course was offered by instructors José Roberto de Toledo and Ricardo Meirelles.

The course dealt with these themes:
• Concepts of Human Development
• Using the Human Development Atlas
• The UN's Millenium Development Goals (MDGs)
• Education and Human Development
• Brazilian Socioeconomic Indicators

Students performed all aspects of the course on line, including watching PowerPoint presentations, reference texts, discussion forums.

Students worked at their own pace, according to their individual schedules. Those who completed the course will receive a certificate of participation.

Abraji charged R$25 (US$15)for its members and R$40 (US$23) for non-members

Abraji developed this course in partnership with the Ayrton Senna Institute, a non-profit organization that works to confront social inequality, and the UN Development Program (UNDP). Other information about the course can be obtained at the Journalism for Human Development,site or from Abraji.

The course marks the most recent collaboration between the Knight Center for Journalism and Abraji, an organization formed in December 2002, with the Knight Center’s assistance.

The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas was created at the University of Texas at Austin School of Journalism in August 2002 thanks to a generous donation from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
