Short Courses of the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas Knight Center Offers Portuguese Course: Introduction to Computer-Assisted Reporting The second edition of the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas free online course “Introduction to Computer–assisted Reporting (CAR)” is being offered in Portuguese from Sept. 28-Oct. 25, 2009, and is being taught by Brazilian journalist José Roberto de Toledo. Toledo, one of the founders of the Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism and PrimaPagina, is a pioneer in the use of CAR in Brazil. Space in the course is limited, and the Knight Center expects high demand. The students selected for the course are Brazilian journalists who work full-time in print, digital, or online media with a minimum of three years of journalism experience. Priority was given to candidates who work as field reporters and demonstrate an interest in using investigative journalism techniques on complex issues. Applications were accepted online through Sept. 13, 2009. Those who are selected were notified the week of Sept. 23.
