Now is the time of year for journalists to be putting together applications for various fellowship opportunities. The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas has compiled a few of the fellowships journalist can apply for:

The Nieman Fellowship at Harvard, which has trained more than 1,300 journalists from 91 countries, brings about 12 U.S. journalists and 12 international journalists to Harvard each year for a year of study and research. See here for more information about how to apply. The deadline for international applicants is Dec. 1, 2011. U.S. applicants can apply until Jan. 31, 2012. Applications also now are being accepted for the 2013 John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships at Stanford. The fellows spend a year at Stanford focusing on "journalistic innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership." More information about how to apply is available here. The deadline for international applicants is Dec. 1, 2011, and the deadline for U.S. applicants is Feb. 1, 2012.

Journalists also can apply now for the Knight-Wallace Fellows at Michigan. Up to six international fellowships, in addition to the U.S. fellowships, will be awarded. Applications are due Feb. 1, 2012.

In the spring, the Dart Center for Journalism & Trauma will begin accepting applications for its 2012 Dart Center Ochberg Fellowship program for "mid-career journalists who want to deepen their knowledge of emotional trauma and improve coverage of violence, conflict and tragedy."

As Knight Science Journalism Fellows, journalists spend nine months at MIT. See here to learn more about eligibility requirements. The application period for 2012-2013 fellowships opens in January, and the deadline is March 1, 2012.

Applications are accepted year-round for Knight International Journalism Fellowships for creating "news outlets and programming, training centers and schools, and innovative resources to improve the quality and free flow of news in the public interest around the world."
