Colombian journalists conclude environmental training
The Newsroom Council, a Colombian investigative journalism association, has completed the training series “The green agenda in investigative journalism” which took place from Aug 3.–Oct. 10. The project was sponsored by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, the College of Rural and Environmental Studies and the Journalism Program at the Universidad Javeriana, and the Andean Development Corporation.

Austin Forum Focuses on Digital Journalism and Democracy
Members of journalism organizations in 18 countries in the Americas and Europe gathered in Austin, Texas, Sept. 11–12, 2009 for the Seventh Austin Forum on Journalism in the Americas. The 48 representatives discussed current and future opportunities for digital journalism projects that will strengthen democracy in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Threatened Colombian TV journalist returns to the air, urges reporters to expose barbarities
Colombian journalist Hollman Morris has enough reasons to leave his home country, but he has a higher calling and assures he will not give in. Morris, whose TV documentary program "Contravía" (Countercurrent) returned to the air Sept. 17 after an eight-month hiatus, spoke at the University of Texas School of Journalism Sept. 10 in an event organized by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas.

Congress on Investigative Reporting Unites 500 Journalists in Brazil
The 4th Congress of the Brazilian Association for Investigative Journalism (Abraji), which took place July 9-11, and was co-sponsored by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, united approximately 500 practitioners, students, and professors of journalism in a series of workshops and seminars on improving the quality of investigative journalism in Brazil.

Online Journalism Symposium Expands Reach Through Social Networking
Some 270 journalists, news industry executives and academics from the United States and 16 other countries gathered in Austin, Texas, for the 10th International Symposium on Online Journalism. The gathering, held April 17-18, 2009, had the largest number of participants in the Symposium’s history, and its reach extended even further through its Web cast and extensive “tweeting” and blogging.
