Thousands of Latin American Journalists Download New Digital Literacy Book, Journalism 2.0Thousands of Latin American Journalists Download New Digital Literacy Book, Journalism 2.0

The PDF versions of a book about digital journalism that was recently translated into Spanish and Portuguese and placed online by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas have received more than 10,000 downloads since their posting on Dec. 14, 2007.

The book, Journalism 2.0: How to Survive and Thrive, A digital literacy guide for the information age, serves as a practical manual for journalists who are interested in adapting their work to the multimedia, Web-based environment. Its author is U.S. journalist Mark Briggs, editor of the online edition of The News Tribune, of Tacoma Washington. The book is an initiative of the J-Lab: The Institute for Interactive Journalism, of the University of Maryland, which launched the first version in July.

“We’re impressed with how quickly thousands of Latin American journalists have downloaded the Spanish and Portuguese version’s of Briggs' book,” said Rosental Calmon Alves, director of the Knight Center. “This shows the enormous appetite that exists among journalists in the hemisphere for training in the area of digital media. Thanks to the support of the Knight Foundation, we will be able to continue offering opportunities like this in the coming years to journalists in Latin America and the Caribbean.”

The book can be downloaded in Portuguese, Spanish, and English from the page http://knightcenter.utexas.edu/journalism20.php
