MOOC on podcasting starts with more than 2,500 students from 112 countries; Still time to sign up for this free online course

More than 2,500 people from 112 countries have signed up for the Knight Center’s latest MOOC, “Listen! How to launch and grow a hit podcast.”

Although the course just began on Aug. 20 with an overview of the field from past to present, students and instructors have been very active on discussion forums.

"I'm delighted to see the course start with a ton of enthusiasm and knowledge from participants,” said Caitlin Thompson, one of five expert instructors for the course and co-host of the Racquet Magazine podcast. “We're already deep into discussions about favorite shows, experiments and ways to make commercially viable content in our Facebook forum, and I can't wait to see how the next few weeks unfold!"

In the next weeks, the course will cover how to develop a pitch, production basics, analytics and engagement, and revenue models.

Students will learn from instructors Tobin Low, co-host and co-managing editor of the podcast Nancy; Rose Eveleth, creator and host of the Flash Forward podcast; Jacob Kramer-Duffield, Ph.D, podcast analytics and audience consultant; and Jenny Barish with content acquisition for podcast platform Stitcher Premium.

There’s still time to register and catch up with the thousands of students learning how to launch and grow their own hit podcast.

Remember that like all Knight Center MOOCs, the course is asynchronous, meaning that activities can be completed during the times and days that best suit the student. However, there are recommended guidelines for completing the instructional videos, presentations, readings, weekly quizzes and participation in discussion forums.

As with all Knight Center MOOCs, participation is free. However, students can pay an administrative fee of U.S. $30 for a certificate of completion. The certificate is available for download in PDF format after the Knight Center completes a review process to ensure the student met the requirements. No formal college credit is associated with this certificate.
