UPDATE: Mexican journalist abducted in Morelos is rescued by state and federal authorities



UPDATE (Published Feb. 20, 2020): A magazine director in the state of Morelos was rescued in an operation by state and federal authorities on Feb. 20 after being abducted by armed men the previous day.

Adrián Fernández Guerra, businessman and general director of Revista Perfil, was abducted by armed men from a bar where he was celebrating his brithday around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 19. 

The next evening, the Attorney General of the State of Morelos reported via Facebook that a businessman and journalist identified as Adrian "N" was rescued from a security house guarded by armed men in the municipality of Jiutepec. Ten alleged abductors were arrested, it added.

Revista Perfil confirmed news of the rescue operation through a video posted to Facebook of Fernández being reunited with his family.

ORIGINAL (Published Feb. 20, 2020): A magazine in the state of Morelos is calling for the safe release of its director general after armed men abducted him from a bar in Cuernavaca, killing one person in the process.

Adrián Fernández Guerra, businessman and general director of Revista Perfil, was abducted from the bar México Lindo around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 19 while celebrating his birthday, according to SinEmbargo.

An employee of the bar who was killed was attempting to block the abduction, the publication added.

State and federal authorities were adopting security protocols and mechanisms of protection in the area to rescue Fernández, according to the State Government of Morelos.

Reporters Without Borders (RSF, for its acronym in French) urged state and federal authorities to use all resources to find the director.

Likewise, Article 19 Mexico called for the implementation of the Approved Protocol for Search for Missing Persons.

On its Facebook page, Revista Perfil posted, “We demand that you return safe and sound!
