Peruvian journalist arrested for alleged computer crime and fired for unethical behavior



A Peruvian journalist was arrested for hacking into the emails of senior officials of the Ministry of Commerce, Foreign and Tourism and was accused of "alleged crimes of grand larceny, unauthorized access to a database and violation of correspondence" by the Computer Crimes Division of the National Police of Peru, reported the news site Peru.com.

Due to the allegations, the journalist Rudy Palma was fired from the newspaper Perú21, where he worked as the editor of the Economics section, for unethical behavior, the same newspaper said on its website.

In his defense, Palma said he did not know that what he was doing was a crime and that he had done it for journalistic purposes, according to the news channel ATV. The journalist is currently in pretrial detention, the newspaper El Comercio said.
