Radio hosts in Peru threatened after accusing local mayor of impropriety

Radio announcers for the station Hits Star Noticias received death threats in the northern Peruvian city of Bagua. The threats were written on small flyers and slid under the doors of the journalists' homes, reported the Press and Society Institute.

Journalists Segundo Alvines and Braulio Rojas said the messages threatened to kill them if they didn't quit their jobs at the radio station, according to the newspaper La República.

Both journalists invited someone on to their shows who accused the mayor of Bagua of allegedly authorizing suspicious payments. Alvines and Rojas presented the flyers to police as proof of the threats.
