Brazilian investigative reporter named 2010 winner of Knight International Journalism Award

A Brazilian investigator reporter and the founder of Indonesia's first independent radio network are the recipients of the 2010 Knight International Journalism Awards, the International Center for Journalists announced.

Daniela Arbex, who works for the Tribuna de Minas newspaper in Juiz de Fora, Brazil, was honored for her investigative reporting, including a series about rape victims who were denied AIDS medication. She also has reported about poor treatment at a psychiatric hospital that resulted in the deaths of 30 patients.

In response to her articles, the government changed its policies and standards.

The other recipient is Tosca Santoso, who in 1999 founded the radio news agency KBR68H.
