In six years, 164,000 people from 200 countries participated in Knight Center's online courses in journalism

The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas is celebrating the 6th anniversary of its program of massive online courses in journalism that has an unparalleled reach around the world. Since 2012, 164,540 students from 200 countries and territories participated in our 60 courses offered in two modalities: 51 were Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and nine were Big Online Courses (BOCs). Each MOOC reaches a few thousand students and is free and each BOC reaches a few hundred and has a low cost. Read more »

Knight Center MOOC program reaches new milestone with more than 100,000 students from 171 countries

Knight Center celebrates 4th anniversary of world's first journalism MOOC program; 85,000 people reached so far

The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas is celebrating the fourth anniversary of its program of massive open online courses (MOOCs), the first in the world specializing in journalism.

On Oct. 28, 2012, we launched our first MOOC, “Introduction to Infographics and Data Visualization” with the idea of expanding the reach of the Knight Center's pioneering distance learning program created in 2003.  Read more »


Course "Social Media Analytics for Journalists" will teach how to measure your success online; registration open

After years of working in online journalism production and audience engagement, journalist Amanda Zamora is ready to share lessons learned about how journalists can optimize content for social platforms and measure audience response.

“Social Media Analytics for Journalists: Measuring Your Success” is a four-week Big Online Course (BOC) offered in English by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas and taught by Zamora. It runs from March 7 to April 3 and costs $95, which is payable by credit card. Read more »


Last days to register for online course “Data Visualization and Infographics with D3” in Spanish; space is limited

Virtual seats are still available for the Knight Center’s upcoming course in Spanish, “Data Visualization and Infographics with D3,” which starts on Jan. 18. Register now.

This is the first time this course will be offered in Spanish. More than 1,000 people interested in data-visualization took this course in English last year when it was taught by Alberto Cairo and Scott Murray. Read more »


Alberto Cairo joins Univision as visualization innovator-in-residence

 

Alberto Cairo, world-renowned infographics expert, is joining Univision Digital as the U.S. media company’s first visualization innovator-in-residence. He will keep his position as Knight Chair in Visual Journalism at the University of Miami School of Communication and will continue his long-time contributions to the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, where he has taught online courses for thousands of journalists from around the world. Online course on data visualization and infographics with D3 now in Spanish; enrollment is open

"Data Visualization and Infographics with D3", one of the most popular online courses in English offered this year by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, will be offered in Spanish starting January 18, 2016.

Both times that this course was offered in English in 2015, spaces filled up quickly. The Knight Center now offers this course in Spanish after receiving repeated requests. Be sure to register as soon as possible to ensure your participation. Read more »


Knight Center celebrates three years of MOOCs in journalism, passes 70,000 students in its online courses

The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas is celebrating the third anniversary of its unique program offering Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and Big Online Courses (BOCs). So far, 62,803​ people from 169 countries have benefited from 19 MOOCs and five BOCs. Read more »
