SembraMedia aims to help journalists with the business of digital media

For years, Janine Warner has traveled Latin America, teaching as a guest professor at universities, speaking at conferences and meeting entrepreneurial journalists along the way. She wanted to find a way to connect all these people.

So, in October 2015, Warner launched SembraMedia, a new nonprofit organization and online portal that aims to create a community of digital journalists in Latin America and Spain, providing a place where they can share information, strategies and resources. Read more »

Digital platform Poderopedia’s new chapter to analyze power networks in Venezuela


On May 3, World Press Freedom Day, Venezuela’s Press and Society Institute (IPYS) launched a new chapter of the digital platform Poderopedia, which helps visualize the connections that exist between powerful people in the country, the organization reported. The platform collects and presents information about political and business leaders in the nation, revealing conflicts of interest, spheres of influence and other connections. Read more »


Facebook launches new service to publish newsworthy content from social media

With more than one billion people using its platform to share photos, videos and news updates, Facebook decided to aggregate newsworthy content and publish it in a new resource called FB Newswire, designed to help journalists and newsrooms find news on social media more easily, the company announced on April 24 in their Newsroom blog. When it launched in 1998, the outlet broke new ground when it became the country's first independent digital-native news site.
