Salvadoran journalist wins International Press Freedom Award from CPJ


Salvadoran investigative journalist Óscar Martínez is one of the four winners of the International Press Freedom Awards from the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

Journalists from pioneering Salvadoran news site El Faro recognized with García Márquez Excellence Award

Journalists from the Salvadoran digital native news site El Faro, the oldest of its kind in Latin America, have been recognized with the Excellence Award from the Gabriel García Márquez Journalism Award.

The award, now in its fourth year, is given to journalists recognized for “independence, integrity and commitment to the ideals of public service of journalism,” according to the award website. Read more »

Central American news websites seek to join forces to cover the region


The news websites El Faro de El SalvadorPlaza Pública de Guatemala and Confidencial de Nicaragua are working on creating a consortium of Central American digital media outlets to cover the region. El Salvador journalist wins Politkovskaya Prize for online investigative reporting

Carlos Dada, the editor and founder of El Salvador’s El Faro news website, received the Anna Politkovskaya Award on Oct. 5 for the website’s investigative journalism and reporting. The prize honors Russian reporter and human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya, who was killed in 2006 in Moscow. Read more »
