Two young Mexicans killed for using social media to report crime

The bodies of two young people were hanged under a pedestrian bridge in the border city of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, in retaliation for using social media, reported EFE.

The bodies were found with a poster warning anyone who uses social media to report crime. "This is going to happen to all of those posting silly things on the internet." The message was signed with the letter Z, alluding to the Los Zetas criminal organization, the Christian Science Monitor reported.

Many social media users have started reporting on firefights and other violent acts along the U.S.-Mexico border through Twitter because of self-censorship on the part of local media fearing reprisals from organized crime, according to CNN.

More journalists have been killed in Mexico than anywhere else in Latin America. Click here to see a map of attacks on journalists in Mexico from the Knight Center. Also, see this Twitter feed from the Knight Center documenting freedom of expression abuses related to social media.

Two young Mexicans killed for using social media

This is absolutely meaning less. But this act reflects the lack of law and order in border area, This innocent killing should be stopped immediately.
