Knight Center Concludes Spanish-Language Course: Mathematics and Electoral Coverage

To prepare journalists to cover presidential elections scheduled for eight Latin American countries this year, and regional and state elections in several other nations, the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas is organizing several online courses that focus on electoral coverage.

Organizations Dedicated to Journalism in the Americas Create a Network

AUSTIN -- Representatives of 23 journalism organizations from 11 countries gathered Feb. 12-13, 2004, for the Second Austin Forum on Journalism in the Americas. Participants took part in a training session to strengthen the capacities of their organizations, and proposed creating a permanent network dedicated to improving journalism throughout the hemisphere.

Forum Focuses on Journalism Training in the Americas

Journalists, journalism trainers, and advocates for independent media from throughout the Americas gathered at the first annual Austin Forum on Journalism in the Americas on Feb. 14-15, 2003, and discussed ways to collaborate and expand the reach of their work.

Members of a broad spectrum of groups committed to fighting for press freedoms and improving journalism in Latin America and the Caribbean attended the forum hosted by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas at the University of Texas at Austin.
