Newspaper correspondent threatened on border between Paraguay and Brazil


Paraguayan journalist Rosendo Duarte, correspondent for the newspaper ABC in the city of Salto del Guairá, on the border with Brazil, was threatened during his radio program on Wednesday, Aug. 25, ABC reported.

Liz Adriana Ríos –- wife of Brazilian Adrián Alex Mauricio Lima, who is is accused of drug trafficking and participating in the organized crime group Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC), or First Command of the Capital –- called into the radio program conducted by Duarte and threatened: “You have to take better care of your mouth, your daughter, and your family," according to ABC.

Duarte filed a complaint with the local prosecutor.

On Aug, 21, the journalist published in ABC a story reporting on the arrest of Lima after a two-hour shootout that caused panic among residents in the region.
