Venezuelan journalist threatened, kidnapped

Venezuelan reporter Carlos Sánchez was threatened with a pistol when he left the offices of Radio Fe y Alegría in the city of Maracaibo in western Venezuela, reported the Institute for Press and Society. The unknown gunmen told Sánchez to get into a car, after which they drove around the city for an hour until releasing him on Monday, Aug. 1.

Station director Mónica Marchesi said that the kidnappers threatened the reporter and mentioned others that worked for the broadcaster, saying they "were involved in things that were none of their business," reported the Dutch organization Radio Nederland Wereldomroep.

After the kidnappers beat and robbed Sánchez, he was left in the northeast of the city.
