Peruvian judiciary decides in favor of journalist dismissed for refusing to read advertisements

The Peruvian Judiciary decided in favor of Perla Berríos in a lawsuit over harassment suffered by the journalist while working at the network Latina, magazine Caretas reported on Aug. 17.

According to the journalist, she was dismissed for refusing to read advertisements between news items, which also led to a period of harassment at work that was recognized by the Peruvian courts. Read more »

Peruvian general is under investigation for death of journalist during internal war in 1988

The criminal investigation of Peru’s Minister of the Interior for the death of a journalist in 1988 serves as a reminder that the Andean nation still lives and deals with the effects of an internal war that ravaged the country in the late twentieth century.

Whether retired General Daniel Urresti, who President Ollanta Humala named Minister of the Interior in June of this year, will face trial for the 1988 murder of journalist Hugo Bustíos hinges on the decision of the chief prosecutor in Lima.  Read more »
