ISOJ to be held online-only for first time in its 21-year history; Free registration open

After the heartbreaking need to cancel the April in-person event in Austin due to the pandemic, the International Symposium on Online Journalism will be online-only for the first time in its 21-year history.

Journalists, media executives and scholars from around the U.S. and the world will discuss advancements and research surrounding digital journalism. The conference will be held for free between July 20 to 24, 2020, with more days, more activities and more speakers than ever before.

ISOJ online

Throughout the course of the week, experts from all over the world will share their thoughts on the state of online journalism globally. The panels will cover everything from how to fight misinformation to how to seek equity in the newsroom.

ISOJ typically takes place over a two-day period at an in-person conference in Austin, Texas. This year, as the coronavirus continues to force lockdowns worldwide, ISOJ has moved its panels to an online-only format.

Now, journalists, editors, producers, executives, and academics from all over the world will have greater access than ever before and can attend the event online for free.

As part of the new approach, ISOJ will be held throughout the week between Monday and Friday, but sessions will be spread throughout each day, with big intervals, to allow participants to have time for other activities.

ISOJ will continue many of its traditions despite the move to online-only. Like previous years, the panels will be available in Spanish. In addition, there will be virtual social activities, like a welcoming party on the first day and a farewell party on the last day. Both events will occur in a special platform that will soon be announced.

Registration is now open. For a complete list of panels, speakers, and activities, visit our ISOJ 2020 page.
